[Theqoo] Baekhyun's 'Delight' – IZM Review

IZM Review

Baekhyun 'Delight' – The 2nd Mini Album' (2020): 3.5 Stars

<Steep growth turns on the green light to future solo activities>

By Lee Honghyun

Solo musicians under SM have distinct individuality. Taeyeon and Taemin, the representative success cases, have respectively claimed their own trademarks, such as pop images and impressive performances, etc. This is their unique strategy in which the agency distinguishes the characters of solo singers and allows each of them to keep their own individuality in each other's position.

What about Baekhyun? He also followed the seduction of hip-hop R&B with the transformation he made in his previous work "City Lights", and he is attempting to become the company's most 'hip' musician. However, it is too early to say that his individuality has matured. Rather than the lack of completeness of music, his short career to entirely build a worldview and the point that he, who comes out of a group, has yet to give the general public clear influence seem to be the reason why he is prevented from gaining a status as a solo artist. Compared to its distinct direction, the work is a little bit underdone on the colors and traction that invite listeners to its own world. There is something that is uneasy to call it his own (music) or the music that only he can do. However, this little normality meets high completion and acts as a new appealing power. In conclusion, "Delight" is an R&B album that is very easy to enjoy. The soundscape entrusted to various producers is perfect, and the dense arrangement of songs that makes effective use of voice color expands the things to hear and secures a plenty of composition.

Compared to the previous work, the deeper tone of sound effectively expresses the artist's intention to shape the urbane visionary world without distancing himself from general public appealing composition method. Neither easy listening nor character building is missing, a solid framework is built by a tight outline between them.

'Candy', surrounded by hazy electronic sounds, is a good title and kick-off for such a work. The melodic pleasure of the head-tracking and highlight melody seems to be a little bit weak, but flexibly loosened the strength to the dense groove. The voice of joy and the sound of synthesizer wrapped around each other make you feel the hit. Afterward, the speed that simple rhymes bring of 'R U Ridin'?' written by Kenzie, and 'Ghost', where the dull arrangement makes you dance, as well as the addictive composition also plant satisfactory first impressions.

Songs aimed at reducing the speed and aiming for more restrained tempo are also impressive, helping the album be easier to access. The examples are 'Bungee' and 'Love Again', the former with the stability of the softened piano and the latter with the naturalness of the acoustic guitar, enabling continuous listening and avoiding irritation. At first glance, it looks cliche, but it is preferred to guarantee more than the basic structure. Moreover, 'Poppin'' which conveys warmhearted romance with unexpected liveliness, is a highlight of lifting the tension in the middle.

Above all, the singer's performance is earnestly backed up by the basis of high completion. Without any musicians who participated in the featuring, Baekhyun performed the main melody, harmony, and witty words brilliantly on his own. A point where his talent is more standing out. From the initial step of a successful transformation to the sophomore that connected with good music. Steep growth will turn on the green light to his future solo activities. An album that can give "delight" to many listeners as the artist wishes himself.

Comments:

- Oh the rating is high.

- I like R&B, so I have been playing all the songs in the album since it was released. I like it so much. I love his 1st album, too. My favorite song is "Underwater", but why don't they talk about "Underwater"? I can't believe it, it is such a masterpiece.

- His new album is good. I listen to "Ghost" every day.

- I'm a fan of R&B and I listen to the album. It's a masterpiece.

- I like 'City Lights' better, but this album is not bad. I liked "Underwater" the most, but the song that I keep thinking about is "Ghost" and "R U Ridin'?"

- Oh, that's a good rating. I like this album. I personally think the album itself was made much better than the previous one.

- The songs are good. It's truly a masterpiece.

- "Love Again" is my most favorite.

- I enjoyed his 1st album, but the 2nd album was also good to listen to. I like them all, but I think the album's organic concept is the best.

- The whole album is good.

- I truly like "Bungee" and "Love Again". After his 1st album, I enjoyed this new album too.

- His songs are so good that I'm listening to his songs well. I hope he will release more songs.

- Baekhyun's album is very good for an R&B fan like me. He sings so well.

- I agree that his album is a masterpiece.

- I like both the 1st and 2nd albums, so I listen to them a lot. This album feels lighter than his 1st album, but I think his vocals are more colorful.

- I think everyone would like the album once they listen to it. Both albums from last time and this time are my favorite.

- It feels relaxing to listen to his album. Each track is good, but it feels much better when listening to the whole album.

- It's so good to listen to the whole album. The quality is good.

- Looking forward to his next album.

- The album's organic concept and the quality of the songs in the album are great. He sings it amazingly. The falsetto that was close to real voice in "Ghost", or the low-registered part in "Love Again", etc. There are a lot of points. I'm happy that the rating and review are also good.
